MAINTAINING RECOVERY

IN DAILY PRACTICE

Recovery isn’ t so much wanting  but giving up. We need will to maintain our recovery, but if we haven’ t a connection to our inner place, our recovery is beginning to deteriorate. The place is where our thoughts, conceptions and desires end. We all have a chance to go there if we only are present in the now, without thoughts…surrendered to the flow of life.

We have experienced the place when a) we have been powerless to our addiction i.e. our own ‘bright’ mind has been at last silenced by life; b) when we have identifying experiences to  other recovering persons; c) let the

Unmanifested/Manifested guide our lives.

In our place there is no hurt. It is the pure Truth in all of us.

Here are seven channels to your higher self, on which you can meditate regularly: They are the anti-thesis of addiction and you can measure how strongly they are in your life at this moment.

1. REMEMBERING YOUR OWN INNER CALLING

Are you only genes, environment and upbringing? No,  I don’ t think so, and the famous psychologist James Hillman doesn’ t either. He is talking about every one of us has calling, the soul’ s code that have strong force in you - if you only let it happen.

You may not hear this calling clearly at all, but gradually your inner calling is truer and truer.

TODAY’ S IMPRESSIONS:

1.How strongly have you followed to your own star? How do you see it today?

2.Are you satisfied with your life in general?

3.Are you satisfied with your work?

4.How much have outside things power to your life?

2. DOING OTHERWISE – WINNING YOURSELF

I have thought long that doing otherwise – winning old Adam and Eve in you – is the smallest ‘particle’ in spirituality. Everybody has experienced how relieving it is when you have enough courage to go against your fears or your laziness.

You must make a very thorough self-exploration that you don’ t leave skeletons behind which will sabotize recovery. But for a person who is trying to strive for perfection facing his/her dark side is often scary. Therefore everyone who is on her/his way to recovery needs to identificate people at the same situation as her/himself. And after all my dark side is only the garbage of my mind, which isn’ t my immortal self. It is comforting that to get rid of the garbage is possible, if I am only ready to work on it.

TODAY’ S IMPRESSIONS

1. Are you an escaper, an avoider?

2. Do you want to avoid the difficult things, or are you always ready for challenge?

3. Do you know the feeling, when you have won yourself in some situation?

3. IDENTIFYING WITH RECOVERING PEOPLE AND IN GENERAL CREATING A LOVING CONNECTION WITH OTHER PERSONS

We are not separate islands, we human beings. We are social animals, we need each other, no matter how hard we deny it. If we are stuck in our misery maybe only way to get out of it is to meet other people and talk with them. People who are in their recovery or self-realizations, they may struggle but they are heading forward. One of the happiest times in my life have been those golden moments when I have a straight connection with a person  who understand in her/his heart where I am at. Identifying with other human beings is deeply healing.

TODAY’ S IMPRESSIONS

1. Are you satisfied with your relationships?

2. Is it difficult for you to relate to other people?

3. Has identifying with some other people helped you in life?

4. GRATITUDE

Gratefulness is a test. Although your life is in a mess, there is a growing hope, if  you find some things in your life to be thankful of. Gratefulness soothes your soul

and gives a room for your growing. Gratefulness here doesn’ t mean lack of sharp views and criticism when it is appropriate. Gratefulness isn’ t blind stupidity but deepening connection with life and love.

The driving force of our mind is fear. Negativity comes so easily, so we have to charge our positive batteries every day. Gratefulness is a brave attitude against mediocrity of our complaining mind.

Gratefulness is the very quality of Love. Our troubled mind is doing its best that Love could not get room in our life, but every manifestation of  gratefulness is making the channel to Love a little more open.

TODAY’ S IMPRESSIONS

1. Is it easy for you to be grateful?

2. Do you find many things in your life to be grateful for?

3. Have you resentment, bitterness, anger?

5. CONNECTION TO A NATURE

Modern human being seems to lose more and more touch with Nature.  But it is surprising how many people will get delighted when they have some kind of experience with Nature. Nature doesn’ t worry or think, it just is. It calls you to be in your senses, to leave worries and gloomy thoughts behind. You see, hear, touch, taste and smell Nature. You realize how your senses are nearer to what you really are than your thoughts.

Nature has amazing soothing and sound impact on an open human-being. In active addiction a person can’t sense Nature, but for a recovering person Nature’ s treasures are endless. Nature never fails, it just is. Nature calls all your senses into a peaceful communication. You see, hear, smell, taste and feel always at the now.

All in all Nature provides many-faced possibility to combine different elements of recovery. You can communicate with other recovering people for instance during long walks or canoeing in Nature.  In Nature it is easier to face difficult and hurting things.

TODAY’S IMPRESSIONS

1. What is your relationship to Nature?

2. Have you actively searched the connection with Nature?

6. PRESENCE IN THIS MOMENT

PRACTICE FOR THIS MOMENT

a. I anchor myself to this moment with my breath

b.  I am open to the life around me with all my senses

c.  I check my body, if I feel tense, anxiety, I accept it and relax as good as I can

d.  I notice every thought and emotion when they are rising

e. I notice all my restrictions, which I put on me

f. I accept Everything That Is

g. I am patient and tender to myself

h. I am resting in this moment without thoughts, without emotions – if

thoughts and feelings will arise I don’ t see them backlashes but come back gently and without trying to this moment

TODAY’ S IMPRESSIONS

1. Have you a habit to live in the past?

2. Do you worry about the future a lot?

3. Is it hard for you to be here and now?

7.  SILENCE

Facing silence

Aldous Huxley said something like that: “When you have to express something beyond expression Shakespeare put his pen away and called music for help. And if music failed? Well, then there is always silence to be relied on. For always, always and everywhere what is left is silence.”

The therapeutic impact of the power of silence  is more and more widely acknowledged. Silence works  whether you alone or with others who are committed into silence. People who suffer from addiction have some difficulty to concentrate into themselves and silence. Being together with others can be very important in this stage.

Silent trips, meditation walk, an important experience of Nature are the journeys to yourself, where  the energy of other people enriches and balances  your experience.

TODAY’ S IMPRESSIONS

1. What is your relationship with silence – impressions now?

2. Does silence scare you or is it your friend?

MAINTAINING CLARITY AND UNITY IN LIFE

Love and sobriety are from the same source, or is it better to say that sobriety is the reflection of love, love for self and others.  Sobriety is clearly moving beyond active addiction. Dryness and active addiction (drinking and using drugs) are two sides of  the addictive way of living. In dryness active addiction is in a ‘sleeper’ state because of the inner fear and outside factors. Sobriety is surrendering, clearing and loving.

Humility is seen as being teachable and open to truth. A teachable person is an individual who can get rid of her/his unworkable patterns of thought and action. To be open to truth is openness to what life is now.

So humility is the attitude of growing consciousness.

The wholeness of recovery is growing bunch of the experiences of  essence, love and joy. Part of your recovery are regressions when you don’ t feel very recovered but you are unbalanced and lost. You don’ t feel at home with yourself, your life. Then you must be  especially sweet to yourself. Don’ t try too much.
